Artist's Description

Catalpa is a true tree of the people, surviving in all kinds of conditions from polluted cities to windswept prairies. Native Americans utilized the Catawba long before settlers arrived in the New World, but the settlers soon recognized the value of the Catalpa and carried it with them across the country.

I learned first hand, as a young man, why it's sometimes called the "fish bait" tree. A friend and I used to pull the black and yellow caterpillars off for bait, and man would we catch fish!

The bloom is absolutely beautiful...as fine as the most expensive orchid! Truly a wonderful creation of God!

This one grows in Harriman, Tennessee, and is in danger of being cut down to make room for an expanding highway!

About Paul Mashburn

Paul Mashburn

I have always been intrigued with photography. I did sports, fashion, news, and wedding photography for a time, but even after I started a career where photography was no longer a part of the work, I kept firing away for personal reasons and to document my life. The photos came in handy for my personal blog http://mushysmoochings.blogspot.com. I still write there quite a bit, but documenting the theater restoration project keeps me pretty busy. I hope you enjoy my photos, because the process gives me great personal pleasure. Even if you don't buy, please leave a comment to keep driving me on!
