Artist's Description

In the 1830’s, most of the five civilized tribes of the southeast (Cherokee, Creek, Choctaw, Chickasaw, and the Seminole) were forced to move from the southeast to west of the Mississippi River. Most of the Indians wanted to stay in their homeland here in the south. In 1830 President Andrew Jackson passed the Indian Removal Act.

This statue, of woman and baby, is located in Spring Park in Tuscumbia, AL. It is dedicated to all those that died on the "Trail of Tears".

About Paul Mashburn

Paul Mashburn

I have always been intrigued with photography. I did sports, fashion, news, and wedding photography for a time, but even after I started a career where photography was no longer a part of the work, I kept firing away for personal reasons and to document my life. The photos came in handy for my personal blog http://mushysmoochings.blogspot.com. I still write there quite a bit, but documenting the theater restoration project keeps me pretty busy. I hope you enjoy my photos, because the process gives me great personal pleasure. Even if you don't buy, please leave a comment to keep driving me on!
