Artist's Description
The Callery pear (Pyrus calleryana) is a species of pear native to China and Vietnam, in the rose family (Rosaceae). Callery pears are deciduous trees growing to 49 to 66 ft. tall. The flowers have an unpleasant odor.
Some cultivars, such as 'Bradford' (as are the ones pictured), are particularly susceptible to storm damage.
This bunch of gorgeous white flowers grows on a tree in a bank parking lot in Harriman, Tennessee. They are about 2 to 3 weeks early this year (2012), and may get bitten by Jack Frost yet!
Anyway, I am enjoying them while they last.
About Paul Mashburn
I have always been intrigued with photography. I did sports, fashion, news, and wedding photography for a time, but even after I started a career where photography was no longer a part of the work, I kept firing away for personal reasons and to document my life. The photos came in handy for my personal blog http://mushysmoochings.blogspot.com. I still write there quite a bit, but documenting the theater restoration project keeps me pretty busy. I hope you enjoy my photos, because the process gives me great personal pleasure. Even if you don't buy, please leave a comment to keep driving me on! I often have issues with white and yellow flowers...this one was exactly what I saw. Thanks.
