Artist's Description

The Crockett Tavern Museum in Morristown stands on the site of the tavern owned by Davy’s father, John Crockett, in the town where Davy spent many of his younger years. After the Crockett family abandoned it, the original tavern was used as a field hospital during the Civil War and a “pest house” during a smallpox epidemic before finally burning to the ground.

Prompted by the popularity of Disney’s “The Adventures of Davy Crockett,” the town decided, during Morristown’s centennial celebration in 1955, to erect a museum on the site commemorating the Crockett family. Opened in 1958 and dedicated by actor Fess Parker, who played Crockett in the Disney film, The Crockett Tavern Museum is a recreation of John Crockett’s 1790 tavern -- both business and home to the Crockett family -- furnished with authentic household items from Davy’s era.

About Paul Mashburn

Paul Mashburn

I have always been intrigued with photography. I did sports, fashion, news, and wedding photography for a time, but even after I started a career where photography was no longer a part of the work, I kept firing away for personal reasons and to document my life. The photos came in handy for my personal blog http://mushysmoochings.blogspot.com. I still write there quite a bit, but documenting the theater restoration project keeps me pretty busy. I hope you enjoy my photos, because the process gives me great personal pleasure. Even if you don't buy, please leave a comment to keep driving me on!
